What is the best stitch for a basic to crochet a blanket?

I'm just starting to get back into crocheting and have been working on scarves and am wanting to do a blanket. I'm pretty comfortable with the basic stitches, being the sc, dc, and hdc. I just want something that is the same throughout, not anything to do with Granny squares, nothing too difficult but something that's going to look nice. It's for my husbands birthday, he wants me to make him a nice blanket. I've looked at plenty of different stitches and patterns but I can't seem to pick one that would look good all over in a blanket. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you very much!
